Newsletter for June 2020
On the last Wednesday in May Tina and Margaret had worked on trowelling the TP17 extension in the house lawn area. During the next session it was completed at context 005, photographed and record before continuing on down to 006.
Ian & Fran sieved this soil. Ian also squared off the original 1 x1m Test pit west wall that had been acting as an access step and then created new steps on the south side of the extension as it was getting rather deep for safety.
Further along the lower field TP21 a newly marked out test-pit, whose location was suggested by Paul, was cleared and marked by Sam in readiness for de-turfing next week. Sam and Margaret measured it from the house and the Veg patch and recorded this with appropriate co-ordinates. On 15th June they opened this same test pit, which produced only a few finds in the first 2 contexts, while Tina & Ian took T17 down to 007.
Elsewhere during the weekend of June 11 & 12 three of our members (Julie, Keith & Ian) joined others to take part in the Wolverley Big Dig test-pitting arranged by Nina O’Hare. So we look forward to hearing the results of that event in the near future.
